Search Based on Start Date

This help topic explains how to define a Set rule based on the start date recorded on the volunteer's History tab. By default, this date reflects when a volunteer record was first given an Active Status; however, start dates can be customized by Volgistics System Operators.

You create Set rules on the Set Definition page. If you're not already on the Set Definition page you can get there by choosing Sets from the menu, and then clicking the Create a new set button.

To create a Set of volunteers based on their start date, select Their start date from the Include volunteers in this set based on dropdown list.

This Set rule can capture volunteers whose start date is any date, a specific date, in a specified range of dates or months, at least a certain number of days ago, not more than a certain number of days ago, or blank.

Any date

Choose the Any date option to capture all volunteers with any start date recorded on their History tab.

In

Use the second option to pull volunteers with a start date in a specific month and/or in a specific year. For instance, set up the Their start date Set rule as shown below to include only the volunteers who have a start date in the current month:

Example of Rule Set for Current Month

By choosing to include volunteers with a start date in the current month, you can run the same report for this same Set of volunteers each month and Volgistics will pick up only volunteers with start dates in the month the report is run.

Exactly / Any time before / Any time after / Not

Volunteers with a start date of a specific date, or any date prior to or after a specific date, can be included in a Set with the third Their start date Set rule option. The following example shows a Set rule that would pull all volunteers with a start date of December 15, 2007.

Example of Rule Set for Exactly December 15, 2007

Anytime between

If a System Operator is not sure of a volunteer's start date, but they know that their start date was during a given work week, they can use the fourth option to include all volunteer records with a start date anytime between a range of dates. In the image below, the Set rule will capture all volunteers with a start date between December 10th and December 14th, 2007.

Example of Rule Set for December 10th to December 14th 2007

More than (--) day(s) ago

The More than (--) day(s) ago option pulls those volunteers with start dates more than the specified number of days ago, as of the date the Set is used. Therefore, like the current month selection in the second option above, the same Set used at different times will pull different groups of volunteers.

Not more than (--) day(s) ago

The Not more than (--) day(s) ago option pulls those volunteers with start dates not more than specified number of days ago, as of the date the Set is used. Again, the same Set used at different times will pull different groups of volunteers.

Blank

Finally, the Their start date Set rule can include volunteers in a Set when they do not have a start date recorded on the History tab.
