We truly hope you enjoyed learning more about the variety of volunteer opportunities we have to offer and are looking forward to joining our team of volunteers. If you are, the next steps are as follows:


1) Complete this Volunteer Application, including reviewing the Guidelines and Waiver and Release.

2) Submit your $20 fee ($5 for kids ages 6-9) using the registration link below.


Once we receive your application and payment, we will be in touch again with more information to get you started!

Guidelines, Waivers, and Release

Guidelines for Volunteers


• Ask staff for assistance with any question you are not sure of the correct answer.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding shelter clients and business.

• Volunteer shirts and name badges must be worn while on-duty as a volunteer.

• Know that volunteers are never involved with euthanasia or cruelty investigations.

• Volunteers are not to be in any unauthorized areas (i.e.; quarantine, stray hall, and clinic) without supervisor approval.

• Immediately report any accident or injury to a volunteer or animal to a supervisor.

• Immediately report any altercation between two animals to a supervisor.

• Never take on a task that causes you apprehension. If an assigned animal makes you feel uncomfortable, ask staff for help.

• Do not bring a non-volunteer guest with you while volunteering without prior supervisor approval.

• Please direct your suggestions and comments to the Shelter Manager or Volunteer Coordinator. Your feedback helps the volunteer program grow. We want you to be proud of the organization to which you dedicate your time and effort!


The Volunteers Bill of Rights

It is your Right:


• To be assigned a task that is worthwhile and challenging.

• To receive the orientation, training, and supervision needed to do the job.

• To feel that your efforts have a real purpose and have contributed to the organization’s mission.

• To receive useful feedback and evaluation on the volunteer work that you perform.

• To be treated with respect and as an equal partner within the organization.

• To be trusted with confidential information as necessary to carry out your assignment.

• To be kept informed on relevant matters within the organization.

• To expect that your time will not be wasted because of poor planning or poor coordination by the organization.

• To ask any questions that will clarify a task or assignment.

• To give the organization input or advice on how to better accommodate the needs of their prospective volunteers.

In considering you for volunteering or employment, Cheyenne Animal Shelter (“CAS”) may request and rely on one or more consumer reports or investigative consumer reports about you that we obtain from a consumer reporting agency, such as IntelliCorp Records, Inc.

For explanation purposes:


 A consumer report is a written, oral or other communication of any information by a consumer reporting agency bearing on your credit worthiness, credit standing, credit capacity, character, general reputation, personal characteristics, or mode of living which is used or expected to be used or collected in whole or in part for the purpose of serving as a factor in making an employment-related decision about you. Such information may include, for example, credit information, criminal history reports, or driving records; and


 An Investigative consumer report is a report in which information on your character, general reputation, personal characteristics, or mode of living is obtained through personal interviews with your prior employers, neighbors, friends, or associates, or with other’s who may have knowledge concerning any such items of information. In the event of an investigation consumer report is requested about you, you are entitled to additional disclosers regarding the nature of the scope of the investigation requested, as well as a written summary of your right under the Fair Credit reporting Act (“FCRA”).


Under the FCRA, before the Cheyenne Animal Shelter can obtain a consumer report or investigative consumer report about you for employment purposes, we must have your written authorization. Before we take adverse action basis, in whole or in part , of the information in that report, you will be provided a copy of the report, the name, address, and telephone number of the consumer reporting agency, and a summary or your rights under the FCRA.

Authorization


I have read and understand the forgoing Disclosure, and authorize the Cheyenne Animal Shelter to obtain and rely upon consumer report or investigative consumer report in considering me for employment and, if I am employed, in considering me the subsequent promotion, assignment, reassignment, retention, or discipline. By my signature below, I authorize the Cheyenne Animal Shelter to obtain any such reports and to share the information received with any person involved in the employment decision about me.


I do authorize you to contact my current employer for employment and reference verification.


(This will authorize immediate inquires to the Human Resources Department and to any listed supervisors or references in the employment/ reference Section or your application.)


I also agree that this Disclosure and Authorization in original faxed, photo copied, or electronic (including electronically signed) form will be vailed for any consumer reports or investigative consumer reports that may be requested about me by or on my behalf of The Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

Retaliation is prohibited:


CAS prohibits taking negative action against any associate for reporting a possible deviation from this policy or for cooperating in an investigation. Any associate who retaliates against another associate for reporting a possible deviation from this policy or for cooperating in an investigation will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.


Photography:


In regards to volunteer photography for CAS: All photographs and/or motion picture or videotape and/or audio recordings taken while at CAS, any CAS property, or any CAS event, may be used by CAS, its assignees, or successors, in whatever way they desire, including television, print, and electronic media. Such photographs, films, files, recordings, plates, and tapes are the property of CAS and they shall have the right to duplicate, reproduce, and make other uses of such materials as they desire free and clear of any claim.


Media Contacts:


Employees and volunteers should not speak to the media on behalf of CAS without contacting the Marketing Coordinator or CEO. All media inquiries should be directed to them.

Cheyenne Animal Shelter Waiver and Release


My services to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter (CAS) are provided strictly in a volunteer capacity, and without any express or implied promise of salary, compensation or other payment of any kind whatsoever. My services are furnished without any employment-type benefits, including employment insurance programs, workers compensation accrual of any form, vacations or sick time.


I fully understand that CAS expects high standards of moral and ethical treatment of animals under its care. I will strictly adhere to these standards in my capacity as a volunteer. I will follow the policies, procedures and safety precautions of CAS, and follow the instructions/directions of the CAS staff. I understand that CAS, without notice, may terminate my services as a volunteer at any time, with or without reason.


I understand the potential safety risks of working with animals and of bringing home illnesses from the shelter to personal pets. I will practice reasonable health hygiene and adhere to the hygiene policies of CAS. I will not bring unapproved guests or family members to CAS while I am on duty. I understand that the handling of animals as well as other CAS volunteer activities may place me in a hazardous situation and could result in injury to me and/or my personal property.


On behalf of myself, my heirs, personal representatives and assigns, I hereby release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and its directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all claims, causes of actions and demands of any nature, whether known or unknown, arising out of or in connection with my volunteer activities on behalf of CAS.


I authorize investigation of all statements contained herein and the reference and employers listed above to give you any and all information concerning my previous employment and pertinent information they may have, personal or otherwise, and release the company of all liability for any damage that may result from utilization of such information.

Receipt and Acknowledgment:


I acknowledge that I have reviewed the above Volunteer Guidelines and have familiarized myself with the information in this waiver and release, and will observe the policies and procedures set forth.
