The Maryland Zoo works with approximately 1,100 volunteers a year, and we are glad that you are thinking about joining our team. This application is for adults 18 or older; younger applicants should refer to our Teen Volunteer Programs section. Please note that our volunteer recruitment is seasonal, with the majority of trainings held in late winter and early spring. You should apply for activities you truly want to fulfill, but understand that we may not add volunteers to that program in the near future. Details can be found on the Opportunity Directory. At this time, we do not use adult volunteers behind the scenes in animal care; if you are a student looking for hands on experience in any aspect of the Zoo, please visit the College Internships section of the website.

We are looking for committed individuals who are prepared to serve for at least ONE FULL YEAR, and who will give a minimum of 6-8 hours per month, depending on program requirements. In addition, zoo volunteers must be enthusiastic about working with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Maryland Zoo volunteers must:

-Participate in an interview process

-Successfully complete new volunteer orientation and all required trainings and assessments

-Provide information for a sex offender registry check, to be run after orientation; any information found to be in conflict with the mission of the Zoo will result in removal from the program

-Pay a one-time $25 registration fee or obtain a waiver based on need

-Commit to a monthly minimum of hours and a full year of service

Please complete the application below and you will receive a confirmation within a few days. You will be contacted as soon as we have an opportunity that matches your interests, skills, and availability. Thank you!
