Group Volunteer Guidelines

Please read these guidelines and share them with your group volunteers:
1. Volunteers will park in the West Plume Street Garage (100 W. Plume Street). Bring in their parking stubs for validation.

2. No sandals or open-toed shoes will be permitted in any situation. No t-shirts with suggestive language or negative images are permitted. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty or paint on.

3. Your safety is of utmost concern to us. All volunteers should be aware of the following basic safety practices:
A. After a safety briefing, volunteers should be knowledgeable about all safety rules for their work area and follow them.
B. All unsafe conditions should be reported to the Nauticus liaison immediately. If any hazards are encountered, report the condition to a Nauticus liaison immediately as well.
C. Horseplay, teasing and other distracting practices are dangerous and will not be tolerated.

4. If a volunteer is injured or becomes ill while on the job, they should notify their Nauticus liaison immediately. In the event of a workplace injury, a “First Report of Injury” form must be completed by their Nauticus liaison or Duty Manager.

5. In the event of a fire, a flashing light and personnel will alert you of a possible fire. All visitors and staff should begin to evacuate the Battleship; gather in Town Point Park with your day supervisor and Nauticus liaison for muster/count.

6. Volunteers may smoke only in the designated smoking area, located at the Elizabeth River Pavilion. It is the volunteer’s responsibility to dispose of cigarette butts in the proper container in order not to litter the grounds with butts. Smoke breaks are to coincide with the scheduled break, not as a separate break.

7. Food and drinks are not permitted in the facility above the first floor. Only water is allowed on the Battleship.

8. It is Nauticus’ policy to provide a pleasant working environment for all volunteers. Positive conduct and compliance with organizational policies will ensure the quality of our guests’ experience, the effective operation of our organization, and a safe and pleasurable work experience. Conduct issues will be reported to the Group Coordinator.
