Please read the waiver of liability and code of conduct included at the bottom. Through submission of this form you are agreeing to both the liability waiver and the code of conduct. This MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR to attending volunteer orientation.

Volunteer Code of Conduct & Waiver of Liability


Under Kansas Law, there is no liability for an injury to or the death of a participant in domestic animal activities resulting from the inherent risk of domestic animal activities, pursuant to K.S.A. 60-4001 through 60-4004.


I hereby released Hope In The Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary Inc. (HITVERAS) from all liability connected with my participation in any Hope In The Valley (HITVERAS) recreational activities. I acknowledge that I am participating in these activities on my own time and of my own choice, and assume all risk in connection thereto.


Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary (HITVERAS) volunteers are expected to act in a professional and respectful manner with each other, with members of the public and with the equine under the care of HITVERAS. This code of conduct will be signed by all volunteers.

Any individual who is a registered sex offender, has been convicted of a felony, or any offense related to the mistreatment of any animal shall be denied volunteer status with Hope in the Valley. Any individual HITVERAS maintains the right to require proof of compliance.

Any volunteer or potential volunteer may be denied for cause as outlined in the bylaws and by quorum approval.

The following policies shall be enforced:

1) Volunteers will act in a professional and respectful manner with each other, with members of the public and with the equine under the care of HITVERAS.

2) Derogatory remarks about other organization(s) or individual(s) shall not be tolerated and are grounds for deactivation.

3) Safety rules as instructed, will be followed and enforced at all times, including but not limited to proper use of vehicles and equipment, animal handling guidelines, and public health guidelines.

4) Smoking is prohibited on HITVERAS property or while representing HITVERAS during a public event or activity.

5) Behavior that shall have a negative impact on HITVERAS will not be tolerated.

6) Photographs taken while on HITVERAS property or during HITVERAS activities shall be the property of HITVERAS.

7) Confidentiality of personal information of fellow volunteers will be maintained at all times.

8) Confidentiality of equine involved in criminal cases not yet adjudicated will be maintained at all times, including the sharing of photos.

9) No HITVERAS volunteer shall solicit or accept donations on behalf of HITVERAS without express authority from the board. All offers of donations, whether monetary or in-kind, must be referred to the board.

10) All media inquiries regarding HITVERAS activities are to be referred to a board member.

Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary (HITVERAS) reserves the right to remove volunteers violating any of the above requirements. In addition, behaviors that are not listed, but are determined to be detrimental to the mission of HITVERAS are grounds for removal.
