Background Screening

Due to the safety and security of our child patrons, all adult volunteers must submit a background check. Answer "YES" in the box below to be emailed information to a compliant, background screener. There is a fee associated with the screening by the screener not Discovery Children's Museum.

Agreement, Expectations, & Disciplinary Procedures

While volunteering with DISCOVERY Children's Museum, I agree to:

1.Follow all rules and guidelines set forth by the Museum and instructions of staff.

2.Provide excellent customer service to all visitors - this includes making eye contact with and smiling at visitors and refraining from cell phone use while on the gallery floor or attending and event off-site.

3.Sign in/out at beginning and end of shift. Contact the department Coordinator to record my volunteer hours, if off-site.

4.Arrive on time and report to assignment as scheduled, in uniform.

5.Take breaks on time and return to my work station on time.

6.Never physically interact with visitors (hug, touch, allow children to sit on your lap, hold hands, pick up, restrain, etc.).

7.Never be alone with a child.

8.Never form inappropriate relationships with minors. Minors include patrons, volunteers and interns.

9.Never be in an isolated situation with or transport minors in my vehicle. Minors include volunteers and interns.

10.Maintain a work environment free of discrimination and unlawful harassment.

11.Refrain from drug or alcohol use before or during my shift and abide by the Museum's no smoking policy.

12.Not bring weapons to the Museum or any off-site function.

13.Submit a criminal background check.

Failure to abide by the above rules will result in first a verbal, then a written warning. The third infraction will result in termination. The following infractions will result in automatic termination:

•Causing or threatening bodily harm to visitor, employee, or volunteer

•Racial or abusive language

•Inappropriate interactions with minors

•Drug or alcohol use
