Volunteer Code of Conduct

As a Westerner Park volunteer, I agree to: 

  • Always act with fairness, honesty, integrity, and openness to my fellow volunteers, staff, clients, and vendors and to respect the opinions of others and treat all with equality and dignity
  • Promote a culture that is free from harassment, bullying, and violence 
  • Promote the mission, objectives, and values of Westerner Park
  • Provide a positive and valued experience for those attending any Westerner Park event
  • Act in accordance with any professional standards and/or governing laws and legislation that have application to the duties I perform as a volunteer
  • Comply with any training or orientation provided to me by Westerner Park in connection with my duties
  • Adhere to Westerner Park’s guidelines and procedures and support the decisions and direction of the Volunteer Advisory Committee, Board of Directors and staff
  • Take responsibility for my actions and decisions and follow reporting lines to facilitate the effective resolution of problems
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and report any potential conflicts to your supervisor or volunteer@westernerpark.ca 
  • Immediately report any violations or potential violations of the Code to your supervisor or volunteer@westernerpark.ca  
  • Respect the position held by fellow volunteers and cooperate to complete duties in good faith and without insubordination

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, those in committee and/or supervisory roles must also agree to:  

  • Appropriately address the behavior of those you lead 
  • Communicate the mission, objectives, and values of the organization  
  • Promote a work environment that encourages respectful and open communication, free from reprisal
  • Educate those that you lead about the Volunteer Code of Conduct 


Patronizing Facilities 

Volunteers may patronize Westerner Park facilities as any other patron but are not allowed to disrupt or interfere in the working of any area. Off-duty volunteers who are still in their uniforms will not be served alcohol in any of Westerner Park’s licensed facilities. The organization reserves the right to refuse admittance or service to anyone. 


Maintaining Confidentiality

Westerner Park shall provide volunteers with education regarding the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of organization information. Including the protocol to be followed if they are asked by external stakeholders to comment on Westerner Park's material or confidential information. Any volunteer privy to confidential information is prohibited from communicating this information to anyone unless necessary to conduct business. Efforts will be made to limit access to confidential information unless deemed necessary. Volunteers must be aware of potential issues and limitations in electronically transmitting confidential information. Examples of confidential information are computer software and files, business documents and printouts, and employee, volunteer or sponsor records.  

In order to prevent the misuse or inadvertent disclosure of material or confidential information, the following procedures should be observed: 

  • Confidential matters should not be discussed in places where the discussion may be overheard, such as elevators, hallways, or restaurants 
  • Confidential documents should not be read in public places and should not be discarded where others can retrieve them
  • Volunteers must ensure they maintain the confidentiality of information in their possession both on and off Westerner Park property 
  • Transmission of confidential documents electronically must be secured by the strongest encryption and validation methods available
  • Access to confidential electronic data should be restricted by storing the data in a safe place and using strong passwords
  • All proprietary information, including computer programs and other records, remain the property of Westerner Park and may not be removed, disclosed, copied or otherwise used except in the normal course of volunteering or with the prior permission of the CEO


Unacceptable Actions/Behaviors 

The following list of unacceptable actions / behaviors have been classified as either hazardous to volunteer safety, criminal, negatively influencing morale, or detrimental to the success of Westerner Park. Unacceptable behaviors shall include, but not be limited to the following: 

  • Causing physical harm, threatening, or harassing another individual
  • Selling or canvassing while on duty or on Westerner Park property
  • Willful damage or destruction to the organization or another individual’s property 
  • Possessing a weapon while on Westerner Park property
  • Disorderly, immoral, or indecent conduct
  • Violation of health and safety practices and procedures 
  • Theft, including physical and intellectual properties
  • Engaging in behavior that could be characterized as offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting
  • Engaging in sexual harassment 
  • Creating a hostile or intimidating work environment 
  • Humiliating, denigrating or injuring another person 
  • Using, possessing, selling, or manufacturing any intoxicant or controlled substance 
  • Failing to report to Workforce or your supervisor, the use of any prescribed drug which may alter your ability to safely perform your duties 
  • Absences or late arrivals without advance notice and/or reasonable cause 
  • Using offensive/obscene language  
  • Inappropriate conduct while consuming alcoholic beverages at organization-related events


Getting Help

If you see or suspect unethical, illegal, or unsafe activities – don't ignore it, please tell someone. You could keep a potentially serious situation from harming your fellow volunteers, employees, vendors, and guests. If you have a concern, please raise this with your supervisor or Workforce representative without fear of reprisal. All reported concerns will be investigated as appropriate and as applicable with relevant local legislation and laws.  



Westerner Park will only collect, use, retain, and disclose your personal information for purposes related to conducting our employment, volunteer, and business relationships. We are committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, accuracy, and security of your information. Your information, and the information you collect in the course of your work, cannot be used or disclosed for purposes other than for which it was collected. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for business purposes and will not be sold or given away at any time without your consent. Westerner Park’s designated Privacy Officer is the CEO.  

Photo Release

I hereby release and hold harmless, Westerner Park along with their respective employees, contractors, volunteers or other representatives from any and all claims, demands or causes of action arising out of the use of photographs to which I am included, for Westerner Park promotional materials.



I understand and agree that submitting this application form does not automatically register me as a volunteer and that there may be certain qualifications I must meet, including the acceptance of established volunteer policies and procedures before I may begin volunteering.

By submitting this form, I attest that the information I have provided on the form is true and accurate. I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to the Volunteer Code of Conduct of Westerner Park, Privacy statement and Photo Release. I understand that should I violate the rules set forth, I may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from my volunteer role.
