PMHS Volunteer Agreement

As an open-admission animal shelter, we rely on volunteer help to run our organization and care for the animals in our custody. Volunteers make a substantial contribution to Pope Memorial Humane Society, hereinafter referred to as PMHS, and we appreciate everything you do to improve the lives of the animals in our care. Volunteers have a major influence in the lives of PMHS animals, so it is important that we take seriously our commitment to our volunteers, and you take seriously your commitment to the PMHS Volunteer Program.


PMHS's commitment to volunteers:

1. To provide you with proper training and knowledge to perform your volunteer duties.

2. To be available to you for questions, concerns, or feedback.

3. To communicate openly with you regarding any changes in policy and/or procedure

4. To listen to any suggestions you may have regarding the operation of our organization

5. To treat all volunteers with respect, appreciation, and friendliness


Volunteers’ commitment to PMHS:

1. If volunteering in the shelter, to fulfill my commitment of 6 shifts per month of service to PMHS

2. To be punctual in attendance for my scheduled shift, or to email the Volunteer Coordinator if I am not available

3. To adhere to all PMHS policies set forth in the Volunteer Handbook

4. To refrain from taking any photographs of the animals without permission

5. To perform volunteer duties safely and to the best of my ability, and to ask for help when I am not confident performing a task

6. To notify the Volunteer Coordinator if I intend to discontinue my volunteer work

7. To treat PMHS staff members with respect, appreciation, and friendliness, and to work under their supervision

8. To treat all animals, other volunteers, and the public with dignity and respect

9. To respect the PMHS Confidentiality Policy

10. To keep appropriate boundaries and respect when dealing with our animals and staff


VOLUNTEER PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE

PMHS does not guarantee placement in the volunteer program. We strive to match applicants with the best available opportunities. PMHS reserves the right to deny applicants that do no match our volunteer needs.


VOLUNTEER TERMINATION POLICY

PMHS reserves the right to terminate a volunteer's services at any time if the volunteer is in violation of this Volunteer Agreement.


CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY

Much of the information regarding the animals at PMHS is highly sensitive. It is important that customer and members of the public feel secure providing us with their sensitive information. As a volunteer, you may become privy to this type of information. It is absolutely forbidden to discuss information regarding people or animals not yet available for adoption with outside parties. Breaking the Confidentiality Policy will result in immediate volunteer termination. No photos of the animals are to be taken without permission of the Shelter Manager or the Volunteer Coordinator.


EUTHANASIA POLICY

PMHS cares for abandoned, abused, neglected, and stray animals. We make every effort to place animals in caring homes. Animals that are appropriate for adoption are never given a time limit - they can remain at the shelter as long as necessary for us to find them a suitable home. However, animals that are suffering, ill, or too aggressive to be safely adopted may have to be humanely euthanized. As a volunteer, you will never be involved in this process. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please direct them to the Volunteer Coordinator.


VIDEO AND PHOTO RELEASE

As a volunteer at PMHS, you may find yourself the subject of photographs or video footage, especially at special events. We reserve the right to use these images for fundraising, newsletters, and publicity purposes. If you would like to opt out of this release, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.


VOLUNTEER RELEASE FORM

I, the applicant, release, waive, and forever hold harmless PMHS from any and all claims, injuries, or harm suffered at any time hereinafter while a volunteer with PMHS. This release shall be binding on the applicant, his/her assigns, executors, administrators, conservators, or guardians.


I further acknowledge that as a volunteer no compensation shall be received for any services provided.


PMHS does not assume nor accept responsibility for liability for claims, injuries, or harm suffered by the applicant as a result of volunteer services performed.


The applicant is hereby aware and acknowledges that the care of the animals at PMHS involves risk of possible injury or harm to the applicant from contact with animals themselves, from performing other volunteer services at the facility, and from entering and leaving the facility.


CERTIFICATION

I certify that I have read the information in this application and it is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge. I understand that falsifying or omitting information may be the cause for rejection of my application or termination of my volunteer service. I accept all terms of this agreement.
