*All volunteer applicants/volunteers are required to undergo a background check in accordance with the rights outlined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Penrose-St. Francis Health Services/Volunteer Services will not accept applications from individuals who have pleaded guilty to or been convicted of a felony.
*We cannot accept individuals who are required to do court-ordered community service hours.
*Prior to beginning volunteer service, all volunteers will be tested for Tuberculosis as this is a requirement in the healthcare environment. Penrose-St. Francis will provide the testing.
*Volunteers will complete the necessary trainings and department orientation as determined by their specific assignment.
*Two letters of reference are required. References should be individuals, not related to you, that are knowledgeable about your skills, experience and personal qualities that qualify you for volunteering at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services.
*A personal interview will be scheduled to review your application and discuss your interests, skills and placement. The Volunteer Services Department reserves the right to decline any application.
*A volunteer time commitment is requested of four hours per week for a minimum of six months or 96 hours of service.
*Your social security number will be requested as a requirement to obtain a background check.
*Volunteers are required to be capable of completing all trainings and to work independently.
*Applicant is advised that there is no coverage under the Workers Compensation Insurance Policy of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, because applicant/volunteer is not employed by Penrose-St. Francis Health Services.
*Unfortunately, not every applicant is accepted for our volunteer positions.
*I understand that there is an inherent risk of contracting a contagious illness when working in a healthcare facility. The hospital requires and provides for active volunteers, the Influenza vaccination annually and the Tuberculosis Quantiferon blood draw. I certify that I am responsible for discussing my volunteer service at the hospital and all recommended vaccinations with my personal physician/health care provider. Any other vaccinations are my responsibility to obtain at my personal cost.
*I understand that Penrose Hospital is a drug-free work place and has implemented policies, including reasonable suspicion protocol which may require volunteers to take the appropriate test or be subject to termination as a volunteer.
