Thank you for your interest in the Community Service program at Riverdale Animal Shelter. Please read the following information thoroughly to ensure our program is a good fit for you.

Our Community Service program is currently offered for individuals who are at least 16 years old and need to fulfill hours for school or work requirements. We are NOT accepting court ordered community service at this time.

Community Service tasks include, but are not limited to, general shelter cleaning needs such as: kennels, dishes, and laundry. If you have any physical limitations or health concerns, please include that when filling out your application so we can assess if we have tasks available to accommodate your needs.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old and have permission from your legal guardian to volunteer.
  • You will need to pass a free background check before you begin.
  • We are not able to accept Community Service volunteers seeking less than 20 hours.

Guidelines:

  • Shifts are available Tuesday through Saturday from 8am - 11am.
  • We do not offer drop in options and shifts need to be scheduled ahead of time.
  • After two instances of being 15+ minutes late or not showing up for a shift, you may be asked to leave the program.
  • Community Service volunteers will be around animals but cannot directly handle them due to the abbreviated training provided in this program
  • The Shelter is closed most major holidays, and sometimes for weather. Community Service volunteers will not be able to complete hours on these occasions.

Next Steps:

  • If you would like to continue, please fill out and submit this application.
  • You will be contacted via email within 7 business days regarding the status of your application.

If you have any questions, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Tabatha Gormley, at acasvolunteer@adcogov.org. Thank you!
