Volunteer Application

Thank you for caring about your national public lands including Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie! We have been receiving a significant increase in volunteer applications and doing our best to engage new volunteers over time. The pandemic has had a huge impact on the volunteer program, especially for indoor projects, large group events, and public facing programs. Per safety guidance, outdoor projects also still have some contingency logistics and capacity limits in place. Throughout the pandemic, we focused substantial efforts on safely re-engaging most of Midewin’s large, seasoned core volunteer base first – out of respect for their long-time dedication. We are also adjusting to extensive staff changes at Midewin of Forest Service Leadership and staff project leaders, which affects strategic planning and how we engage volunteers. We are grateful for your patience as we learn to adjust and safely reengage an even more robust volunteer community.

If you submit this volunteer application, your contact information will be on file and a Volunteer Coordinator will contact you when openings become available for new volunteers (based on the Assignments you choose as preferences and your comments).

If you have immediate questions or concerns, contact Midewin's Volunteer Coordinator, Kathryn Gorman at kathryn.gorman@usda.gov
