Volunteers under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by a volunteer parent, guardian, or trusted adult at all times when volunteering. Before volunteering, each new volunteer must attend the Family Volunteer Orientation and be willing to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per month with a 6 month commitment. The parent or legal guardian must attend Family Volunteer Orientation and accompany the youth while volunteering.
The Roanoke Valley SPCA is very fortunate to have many committed volunteers, without whom we would not be able to fulfill our mission to "improve the quality of life for animals and the people they touch in the Roanoke Valley." We look forward to your help.
Steps to becoming a Family Volunteer Team for the RVSPCA
1.Complete and return your Family Volunteer Application to the RVSPCA Volunteer and Adoption Services Supervisor.
2.Pay a one-time, non-refundable $30 volunteer registration fee. This covers the cost of up to 3 volunteer t-shirts, materials and insurance. This fee helps to ensure that the vast majority of our funding is spent directly on animal care. Please understand that your volunteer fee is non-refundable and will be considered a contribution to the shelter should you decide to forgo volunteering. T’shirts awarded upon completion of orientation and 4 hours of volunteer work.
3.Once your application and fee have been submitted, you will receive an invitation to register for Family Volunteer Orientation. Family Orientation is the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10 am.
4.Attend additional training classes as required for specific activities.
