DBG Volunteer COVID-19 Prevention & Vaccine Policy

Denver Botanic Gardens (DBG) is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for volunteers.   Accordingly, DBG is implementing this COVID-19 Prevention and Vaccination Policy, effective October 15, 2021.  This follows the policy adopted by the City and County of Denver regarding mandatory vaccination for employees and contractors.

When all volunteers get the COVID-19 vaccine, we will each do our part to protect our volunteers, their families, and members of our community against the coronavirus (COVID-19).  DBG believes vaccination is an important measure to protect the health and safety of volunteers, visitors, clients, family members, and those who visit our institution from serious COVID-19 infection. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at preventing you from getting seriously ill with COVID-19.  The benefits of COVID-19 vaccines include:

  • COVID-19 vaccinations have been shown to be highly effective at preventing you from getting sick with COVID-19 and may prevent you from experiencing the most severe consequence of the disease and spreading the virus to others.
  • COVID-19 vaccinations are an important tool in helping to stop the pandemic.
  • COVID-19 vaccines are currently free.
  • COVID-19 vaccines currently approved or in development in the U.S. do not contain the COVID-19 virus and will not make you sick with COVID-19.
  • Getting the COVID-19 vaccine will not make you test positive for COVID-19.
  • COVID-19 vaccines do not alter your DNA.

More information about COVID-19 vaccines and the vaccines’ safety and efficacy is available and frequently updated on the CDC’s website at:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/

Vaccination Policy

Denver Botanic Gardens requires all volunteers to obtain and maintain up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations, when available. DBG believes this is an important measure to protect the health and safety of employees, volunteers, customers, clients, family members, and those who visit the workplace from COVID-19 infection.

All volunteers must maintain and provide written proof that they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon becoming eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. Volunteers must complete a DBG COVID Vaccination Form and be fully vaccinated prior to October 15, 2021.  Adequate proof of vaccination includes proof that the volunteer is fully vaccinated as documented by DBG COVID Vaccination Form. Full vaccination is defined as two weeks following the complete dose of the vaccine – namely, two weeks following the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination, or two weeks following the second of the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations.

COVID-19 Prevention Policy

In addition to other measures adopted by DBG to protect the health and safety of workplace and visitors to the workplace, including DBG employees and volunteers, DBG adopts the following mask policies for all volunteers:

Vaccinated Volunteers

Volunteers who provide adequate proof that they are fully vaccinated (“adequate proof” and “fully vaccinated” as previously defined) may volunteer at any DBG location without wearing a mask. Fully vaccinated volunteers may choose to wear a mask for personal or medical reasons, and DBG encourages all volunteers to wear a mask if doing so feels more comfortable.

Unvaccinated Volunteers

Volunteers who choose to not provide adequate proof that they are fully vaccinated (“adequate proof” and “fully vaccinated” as previously defined) by October 15, 2021, will be asked to take a leave of absence from the DBG Volunteer Program until the COVID 19 situation improves.
