Thank you for your interest in JF&CS Family Table, the largest kosher food pantry in New England! We serve more than 550 families every month and last year we distributed more than 35,000 bags of food! We are always in need of more volunteers to deliver food.

Our mission is to end hunger in the Greater Boston Jewish community, while serving those who need our assistance, regardless of religious affiliation. Family Table fulfills its mission by providing kosher food, creating a caring Jewish connection, and empowering people to make healthy eating a part of their daily lives.

Please complete this application form if you are interested in becoming a JF&CS Family Table volunteer.

You will then receive an email from the Volunteer Coordinator with information about our opportunities and the CORI form, unless you have already received this material.

Requirements:

  • A JF&CS CORI (criminal record information) for all volunteers age 18 and over, due two weeks before the distribution (and at the very latest, on the Tuesday prior).
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all volunteers age 5+.

Please note:

Based on federal and state guidance, we have determined that individuals may not volunteer if any of the following apply:

  • You are feeling unwell.
  • You have recently come in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if you have been in close contact with someone who is ill and whose COVID-19 status is in question.
  • You are self-quarantining for any reason.

Please contact familytable@jfcsboston.org if you have not received a reply within the week.

Sunday pack and deliver opportunities:

Special instructions:

  • Please choose one time slot.
  • If you are coming alone or as the only adult, please choose the Driver (Primary Contact) position. If that isn’t listed, we are full.
  • Any other adults in the car should complete their own application and choose Passenger (Secondary Contact).
  • The volunteer opportunity typically takes up to 1.5 hours.

Sunday on-site opportunities:

Please email familytable@jfcsboston.org or note in section #7 if you want to help on-site.

Weekday opportunities:

All of our positions require the ability to lift 25+ lbs and be on your feet for the entire shift (1-3 hours).

In Waltham:

1.  Bag packing: Pack non-perishable bags on Thursday afternoons.

2.  Assist during Marketplace: Help with set up, packing groceries, and distributing them during our curbside pick-up distribution for our clients on the first Wednesday of the month and every Tuesday.

3.  Truck unloading: Unload a shipment from the Greater Boston Food Bank and shelve it on Thursday mornings

In Canton and Marblehead:

Truck unloading: Once a month we unload a truckload of inventory from Waltham on a Thursday to prepare for our Sunday distribution.

Multiple Territories:

Weekday emergency food delivery: We need drivers across all of the Greater Boston area (North Shore and South Area) to do a contactless delivery of prepacked groceries to members of our community who are in quarantine and are food insecure. You would need to come to Waltham first to pick up the food. If interested, please email familytable@jfcsboston.org as times and frequency vary.

4. Logistics

For those who would like to pack and deliver groceries on a Sunday, please read below and complete this section.

We try to match you within 15-40 minutes from your hometown. We now permit volunteers to deliver to their hometowns when needed. Please let us know on Sunday if you know the client with whom you are matched and we can reassign.

Please note if there are specific places you prefer to go.

If you are flexible, please write Flex.

Notes on the 100 towns/cities we serve:

  • For Waltham: Our greatest delivery needs are to Allston/Brighton and Boston, but we do serve a large area that includes northwestern and northeastern parts of Greater Boston.
  • For Family Table North Shore: The majority of the clients live in Lynn. We do serve Peabody, Salem, and occasionally more northeastern towns.
  • For Family Table South: Clients live as west as Needham and as southeast as Plympton.
