Background Check

Once you have gone through our intake process (Orientation and a placement discussion interview) you will be sent a link to submit a background check online.In order to become an ongoing Adult volunteer with the Denver Botanic Gardens you must submit to and pass a criminal record and National Sex Offender (NSO) check prior to acceptance into the program.

A volunteer whose background check indicates no criminal record and is not registered with NSO will be considered for placement. Any volunteer applying for an opportunity with Denver Botanic Gardens who has been convicted of a Class 1, 2 or 3 felony will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any felonies that involved any type of physical harm to others or animals will not be considered.

Volunteer Agreement, Waiver and Liability Release

I certify that the information given in this volunteer application is true and correct and has been given voluntarily. I understand that this information may be disclosed to any party with legal interest, and I release Denver Botanic Gardens from any liability whatsoever for supplying such information. Volunteer placement is a selective process and not all applicants are accepted into the program. Denver Botanic Gardens reserves the right to place volunteers in an area best suited to the applicant’s skills and the needs of the organization. No volunteer position is guaranteed and positions may be terminated at the Gardens’ sole discretion.

I understand that I will not be paid for my services as a volunteer, and I will adhere to volunteer program guidelines stated in the volunteer handbook.

Authorization for Background Check

As an applicant for a volunteer position with Denver Botanic Gardens, I realize that a thorough background investigation is conducted to qualify me for volunteering. I understand that Denver Botanic Gardens must verify my date of birth and social security number. I hereby authorize the release of any information relating to my criminal history and any additional specific information relating to the position that I’m applying for, unless restricted by law. This authorization is made voluntarily, for the purposes of volunteering only, and information should be given only in response to an authorized request from Denver Botanic Gardens.

Volunteer Waiver and Release

Denver Botanic Gardens is not responsible for an injury or accident that may occur during my participation as a volunteer in any activity or event. I understand by checking the “I agree” box below that I assume full responsibility for any injury or accident that may occur during my participation as a volunteer, at either the York Street or Chatfield location, and I hereby release and hold harmless and covenant not to file suit against Denver Botanic Gardens, employees and any affiliated individuals (“releasees”) associated with my participation from any loss, liability or claims I may have arising out of my participation, including personal injury or damage suffered by me or others, whether caused by falls, contact with participants, conditions of the facility, negligence of the releasees or otherwise. I understand that in the course of volunteering I may participate in or create intellectual property on behalf of the Museum. I understand that all such property, and all rights to its use, belong exclusively to the Museum. I shall exercise due diligence in ascertaining the ownership of any non-Museum intellectual property prior to its use by the Museum, and shall work with appropriate Museum personnel to protect Museum intellectual property.” If I do not agree to these terms, I understand that I am not allowed to participate in the volunteer program.

Media Release

I hereby give permission for my images, captured during regular and special Denver Botanic Gardens activities through video, photo or other depictions, to be used in all forms of media and in all manners, for advertising, trade, or any other lawful purpose. I waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product, including copy that may be created in connection therewith. I also waive any rights of compensation or ownership thereto.

I agree to hold harmless Denver Botanic Gardens from any claims for damage, libel, slander or invasion of privacy.
