Consent and Safety Guidelines

I do hereby, for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators waive and discharge the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and all its officers, agents, and employees from and against any and all claims, demands, actions or cause of action arising from any injuries or damages I may suffer or sustain by my participation in any activity for which I participate in for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Furthermore, in full recognition and appreciation of the potential dangers and hazards inherent in such an activity, I do hereby agree to assume all the risks and responsibilities surrounding my participation in this activity or any activities undertaken in addition thereto

I understand that it is my responsibility to inform Foodbank staff if I do not give consent for the use of my photo or that of my child.

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has Good Management Practices to protect food and personnel safety.

• Hand washing is the number one way to prevent food-borne illness. All staff, volunteers and service providers must wash hands before beginning shift, and after eating, drinking, using the restroom, and otherwise soiling hands.

• Any person exhibiting symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, jaundice, sore throat with a fever, or any other infectious or communicable illness are prohibited from entering the warehouse and handling food.

• Staff and volunteers participating in bulk food repack projects (repacking cereal, pasta, rice, etc.) in the Clean Room must wear a hairnet and beard net (if needed), and remove all dangling earrings, bracelets, watches and necklaces and cover any stud earrings with a hairnet. Any rings other than plain bands must be removed and plain band rings must be covered by gloves. Bandages on hands must be covered by gloves. Bandages on other parts of the body must be wrapped to prevent food contamination. Lockers are available to store personal items.

• No food or drink of any kind is permitted in any warehouse area, including gum and candy. Spills or improperly disposed of food or drink can contaminate inventory food products and be attractants for insect pests and rodents. Bottled water is approved in a clear see-through bottle with a lid for all warehouse areas except the Clean Room.

• No one is allowed to consume or remove from the premises any food or non-food products stored in the warehouse.

• Report any warehouse product spills to a manager immediately. Spill clean ups including broken glass and food containing allergens must be documented to ensure no other food products are contaminated.

• All overhead doors and walk-through doors must remain closed when not in use to prevent insects, rodents and birds from entering the building.

• The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is a tobacco-free campus. Tobacco use of any kind is prohibited including smokeless products, E-cigarettes, and vaping products.

• All guests, including volunteers and service providers, must check-in at the front desk on arrival and check-out at departure. Network partner representatives picking up food must check-in at the distribution office.

• Volunteers, network partner representatives and service providers are assigned to specific areas in the facility for safety and emergency accountability. Other foodbank guests must be escorted by staff when in the warehouse.

• Open-toed and open-heeled shoes are not permitted in the warehouse protecting foot safety from powered equipment and the movement of product on pallets. All persons operating powered equipment must wear proper personal protective equipment.

• Safety Data Sheets must be on file for all cleaning and other chemical products used in the facility. Use of products must be according to specifications on labels or Technical Data Sheets. Service providers must provide Safety Data Sheets for all chemical products in use.
