Becoming a volunteer at the Humane Society of Charlotte involves a great deal more than just a love for animals. Although that is a good place to start it also requires dedication, commitment, initiative, hard work and patience.
All volunteers are required to attend a 30 minute Information and 2 hour Orientation prior to volunteering.

The purpose of this application is for us to learn about you, the volunteer. What are your likes and dislikes; what are your feelings about animals; and most importantly, why do you want to be a volunteer?

All Humane Society of Charlotte volunteers are required to be at least 16 years of age.

We need volunteers who are able to make a regular long term commitment to our animals. Before signing up please make sure that you have the time to commit. If circumstances are likely to change, it is best to wait and reconsider for a long term commitment.

Again, thank you for your interest in animal welfare and the Humane Society of Charlotte.

I Agree

In consideration of this opportunity to serve as a volunteer with the Humane Society of Charlotte (“HSC”), I, the undersigned, agree to the following terms and conditions, intending to be legally bound by them.

I understand that the handling of animals and other volunteer activities in which I may participate on behalf of the Humane Society of Charlotte (“HSC Activities”) may expose me to a variety of unforeseen risks, and may place me in hazardous situations, which could result in injury to me or my personal property. By signing below, I expressly and specifically assume such risks, including all risk of injury, harm, or loss that I may incur. I hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless the HSC and all of its employees, agents, and board members, from liability of any nature, whether or not the basis of such liability is presently known to either party. I agree that I will not bring suit or any claims against the HSC, its employees, agents, board members, or pet owners.

I agree to maintain medical and dental insurance policies and understand that I’m responsible for any costs associated with injuries. I give HSC authority to seek emergency medical treatment and transportation in situations where I am unable to make that decision. I will inform the Volunteer Program Manager and staff/volunteers of any medical or other conditions that might impact my service.

I understand that public relations are an important part of many HSC Activities in which I may participate, and I may be photographed and/or videotaped by the HSC for internal and/or promotional use. I hereby grant and convey to HSC all right, title, and interest, including but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds, or other benefits, in any and all such photographs or recordings, and consent to the HSC’s use of my name, image, likeness, and voice in perpetuity, in any medium or format, for any publicity without further compensation or permission.

I understand that all information concerning animals, clients, donors, staff, patrons, other volunteers, financial data, business records, and employees is confidential (the “Confidential Information”). I agree that I will not disclose or make use of any Confidential Information without HSC’s prior written consent. The HSC board of directors, staff and patrons rely on HSC volunteers to conform to this rule of confidentiality. I understand that my failure to maintain confidentiality may result in termination of my relationship with HSC, and may also result in my personal liability for damages related thereto.

I agree that when I am acting in an official capacity as an HSC volunteer, I will not take any action that would result in the volunteer’s financial benefit or the benefit of their immediate family members. I agree that I will not ask for or receive for myself or for a member of my household, directly or indirectly, any monies or gifts from the community. I will disclose to HSC any potential conflict of interest, and I understand that such potential conflict of interest will not preclude my HSC volunteer service if it is disclosed appropriately.

I understand HSC does not perform background checks on volunteers. Volunteers are subject to immediate dismissal if they engage in any activity which might be construed as harassment, or use of HSC’s name, equipment or materials for any illegal or unethical purposes. Any volunteer who observes another volunteer or staff member engaged in unethical or illegal activity should immediately report the activity to the Volunteer Manager.
The confidentiality of the reporting volunteer will be protected.

If accepted as a Volunteer for Humane Society of Charlotte, by signing below, I hereby accept the above terms, conditions and understandings.
