Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss.  Our mission is to provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals.  We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness.  Our vision is a world in which no person is limited by their visual capacity.

SUMMARYThe Adult Day Health Care Program (GuildCare) provides healthcare and recreation for multicultural seniors with vision loss, developmental disabilities and chronic medical conditions. We are looking for an intern to develop a variety of enjoyable recreational activities for adults with vision impairment who attend the program.  The activities should engage participants and build a sense of community.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the program director or designee the Curriculum Designer will be:

  1. Someone who thinks outside of the box to develop new or reinvents activities based on current healthcare and CDC covid-19 safe distancing and masking policies for participant's age and abilities.
  2. Activities should be virtual covering a wide range of topics appropriate for the clients including, musical, trivia, sing-a-long, sports, etc.
  3. Activities should be easily executable by 1 or 2 recreational leaders working one on one with a client or with groups.
  4. The activities must be clearly written so that someone reading the directions can demonstrate instructions and teach proper techniques for each activity, and provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants.
  5. Virtual activities must be computer based and can be a combination of videos, online meeting application (Zoom, Google Meets, Office team, etc.) and PowerPoint presentation.



Qualifications:
  1. Must be able to relate comfortably to disabled and blind adults/seniors.
  2. Ability to plan and write instructions in detail for activities.
  3. Course work or experience in creating fun, engaging, group activities for adults or persons with limited mobility.
  4. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.

Travel Directions:

Take the #1 train to 66th Street. Travel west along 65th Street for two blocks. Make a left on West End Avenue. Travel one block to 64th Street. We are on the south side of the street 250 West 64th, between West End and Amsterdam Avenues, closest to West End Avenue.

Take the M57 Bus to West End Avenue between 63rd and 64th Streets.

Take the A, B, C or D to 59th Street Columbus Circle. Walk north on Broadway to 62nd Street. Travel west along 62nd Street to Amsterdam Avenue. Take Amsterdam Avenue to 64th Street. Make a left on 64th Street, we are located at 250 on the south side of the street.
