Cooking Matters Chef Instructor

Duties: Cooking Matters Colorado is a nutrition education program that fights hunger by teaching families how to make healthy and budget-wise food choices. The ideal chef instructor is someone with a culinary background or experience working in the food industry.
Responsibilities include: inspiring participants to cook more meals at home and teaching them that cooking can be fun, following goals and objectives of each lesson in the Cooking Matters curriculum, demonstrating cooking skills like proper knife handling, food safety, measuring ingredients, basic cooking techniques and clean-up.
Qualifications: Successful completion of application and interview.
Successful completion of appropriate screenings including criminal background check.
Completes program orientation and position specific training.
Dress code is business casual with comfortable shoes.
Must have professional training or experience in the culinary industry.
Must enjoy interacting with participants and families.
Interest in working with low-income individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Be comfortable speaking in front of audiences.
Ability to travel to class location.
Willingness to be trained with Cooking Matters curricula and to work as a team with volunteer chef.
Adhere to Cooking Matters policies and procedures.
Serve as a positive role model for participants in classroom.
The position is flexible roughly four hours per week for six weeks-which includes, lesson preparation, travel time, class time, set-up and clean-up.
Maintains participant and family confidentiality.
Ability to be nonjudgmental and empathetic.
Good listening and communication skills.
Completes ans submits volunteer hours to position supervisor monthly.
Abides by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.
Notifies supervisor if not able to make scheduled visits.
Maintains open communication with other team members-reporting all concerns to supervisor.
Participates in volunteer check-in meeting with supervisor.
