UAMS Special Events/Community Volunteer
Location: UAMS Medical Center
Volunteer Services Department
Duties: Volunteers in this area may do some or all of the following:
*Participate in one-time or special events sponsored by the Volunteer Services Department or the UAMS Auxiliary including fundraisers, community events or educational opportunities.
*Create special items for patients and family members of UAMS (baby hats, patient blankets, etc.).
*Act as a patient liasion for patients that are from other states or countries and need someone to accompany them and/or their family to dinner, to a tour of Little Rock or to various doctor's appointments.
*Complete special requests of the Volunteer Services Department.

Volunteers in this department will work toward the following competencies:
*Notify Volunteer Department or other designated individuals of any absences.
*Sign-in and out or notify Volunteer Department of hours volunteered. *Wear hospital-issued identification badge as necessary.
*Maintain confidentiality at all times and do not discuss any information learned while on-site to anyone outside of the unit, department or hospital.
*Exhibit knowledge of Safety/Disaster Preparedness, Infection Control, Patient Relations, Environmental Care, HIPAA, and the UAMS and Volunteer Department mission.
*Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
*Have a working knowledge of the work of the UAMS Medical Center, Volunteer Services Department and the UAMS Medical Center Auxiliary.
Qualifications: *Mature, positive, service-oriented individuals with an emphasis on compassion for patients and visitors.
*Ability to lift 10lbs. or more helpful in some instances.
*Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual skills are helpful.
*Ability to take initiative and be flexible in assuming different roles as needed to provide comfort for patients and families.
*In some instances, transportation will be necessary.
*In some instances, specially qualified skills will apply for persons sewing or knitting or completing specialized tasks.
*A flexible schedule would be ideal for many of these tasks.
Directions: Training:
*General Volunteer Orientation.
*HIPAA Training.
*Hospital Safety and Standards Training.
*Specific training for assigned events or projects.
*Training as needed in dealing with persons in stressful situations.
