Clinic Assistant
Location: Free Clinic
Urgent Care
Duties: This position is favored by pre-med college students.

To provide support to Clinic Specialist during basic health clinics by assisting in various 'behind the scenes' tasks. These tasks may include: unlocking the front clinic door, reviewing pink patient intake slips, pulling patient charts, making phone calls, communicating with patients about their complaints, serving as a 'runner' between Clinic Director and other volunteers. The clinic assistant shadows other positions within the clinic (those not requiring a license) as time allows so they may act as substitutes when someone is out sick.
Qualifications: No medical background necessary. Requires flexibility, attention to detail, ability to complete tasks with little direction, and sense of humor. Commitment should be expanded from the usual once per month, to weekly or at least 2x/month.
Benefits: Pre-Med Students may qualify for promotion to Clinic Specialist from this position.

Current volunteers describe a number of benefits:
1) the satisfaction of helping your neighbors (our community) who would otherwise not receive any care
2) the ability to work with a wide spectrum of health professionals from the broad metropolitan area,
3) alternative work environment: significant collaborative work between the volunteer team,
4) working with patients who daily, in writing and vocally, express gratitude for the care you provide,
5) an opportunity to teach and learn new things.
