Public Programs Volunteer

Education
Duties:
  • Lead visitors of all ages in fun hands on science activities, small demos, and games at our Discovery Table program.
  • Learn to prepare, lead, and clean up a Discovery Table program.
  • Engage visitors with engaging educational content and provide good instruction that all ages can follow.  
  • Assist the education department as they lead other public programs in the museum such as the Do Lab, Science on a Sphere, and Science Theater.
  • Be able to track the attendance of a program.
  • Be able to make announcements for programs as needed.
  • Be friendly and knowledgeable about what the museum offers.
  • Bring a positive energy to learn and assist the museum.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding schedules and availability.
  • Help the education team with any behind the scenes tasks or projects as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Applicants will be asked to meet for an interview, submit and pass a background check if they are 18 years of age or older, and attend an orientation.
  • Comfortable working with kids and families. 
  • A background in science or history is not required, but must be interested in learning and sharing content. 

Scheduling:
  • Morning shifts begin at 9:30 and afternoon shifts begin at 12:30. 
  • Public programs are scheduled month to month, but may change if there is a special event or project taking place onsite. 
  • Shifts are typically 3-4 hours in length.
  • Shifts are offered through out the week except Sunday mornings.
