Adopt-a-Parking Area
Location: Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge
Maintenance
Duties: Volunteer is responsible for litter pick up in their assigned hunter parking area during the refuge hunting season. After each check, the volunteer reports to refuge staff any major issues, large trash items that need disposal, damages, vandalism and any unusual situations. The refuge provides trash bags and arrangements for trash disposal if needed.
Qualifications & Time Commitment: Must complete a volunteer orientation with the volunteer coordinator prior to volunteering. Volunteers must be in good physical condition and able to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Volunteers should be prepared by wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and dress for outdoor work. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation.

Volunteers should visit their designated parking area a minimum of one time a month during the hunting season (September-November).
Job Hazards: Potential hazards for this role include outdoor hazards such as scratches from plants (may include thorns and nettles), rash from poison ivy, insect bites/stings, or sunburn. Other potential hazards include injury from slips, trips and falls, blisters or foot problems could occur from hours of walking, strain from bending and lifting, cuts/abrasions to hands and arms, or strain from lifting heavy trash objects or trash bags. Another potential hazard is interaction with hunters.
