Location: Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge
Interpretation-Education-Outreach
Duties: Volunteers will use the "iNaturalist" app on their smart phone to observe and record a variety of plant and animal life found throughout the refuge (public areas only). All training to use the app will be provided. No prior knowledge of plant or animal identification required.
Qualifications & Time Commitment: Must complete a volunteer orientation with the volunteer coordinator and be trained on how to use the iNaturalist app prior to volunteering. Volunteer should have adequate photographic ability, be able to operate a smart phone and the iNaturalist app, be able to work independently. Volunteers are encouraged to make observations at a variety of times, locations, and seasons in order to collect a diverse data set. Volunteers are responsible for their own transport and must use their own iPhone. Volunteers can use a personal profile or the refuge profile when using iNaturalist.
Job Hazards: Potential hazards for this role include outdoor hazards such as scratches from plants (may include thorns and nettles), rash from poison ivy, tick/insect bites/stings, exposure to the elements, or sunburn. Other potential hazards include injury from slips, trips and falls, blisters or foot problems could occur from walking, strain from bending and lifting, or injury from incidental encounters with wildlife.
