Headquarters Front Desk Receptionist
Location: Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge

Duties: - Greet and interact positively with visitors who come to the Headquarters office. Must be willing to learn and acquire a good working knowledge of the refuge and its policies over time.
- Provide information, directions, orient, and answer visitor questions in regards to the refuge.
- Use the phone system to include answering incoming calls, transferring calls, taking messages, etc.
- Will frequently use various office equipment (laminator, copier, cash register, etc.).
- Be knowledgeable about the Friends of Sherburne and the item at the Eagles Nest Nature Store. Training for the cash register and store will be given during the shadow shift. Must be able to handle money responsibly.
- Will be trained on how to sell Federal Lands Interagency Passes.
- Assist with administrative projects and tasks as assigned.
- Use of a laptop or tablet may be requested. Training provided.
Qualifications & Time Commitment: Must complete a refuge volunteer orientation and one, 3-hour front desk shadow shift prior to working independently. Must work well with people (visitors, staff, and other volunteers), be able to pay attention to detail, and work with a minimum amount of supervision.

Minimum one, 3-4 hour shift weekly or biweekly during weekday business hours (Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm).Volunteer must provide their own transportation to their shift.
Job Hazards: Front Desk Volunteers work under the direct supervision of the volunteer coordinator or other staff. All projects and tasks will be given with clear instruction and all materials necessary. Staff will always be on site to assist if volunteer has questions or issues. No project is required if a volunteer feels they do not have the skillset to safely do the task. Slips, trips, and falls would be main safety concern. Volunteers are required to sit for prolonged periods of time and occasionally stand during shift. Interactions with members of the public could potentially be a hazard if that person becomes hostile. All shifts will be cancelled if the office is closed, in the event of bad weather that make driving conditions hazardous, or other emergencies. Staff will notify volunteers in the event of cancellation via email or phone.
