Dog Walker
Duties:

Volunteers on this team walk HHS dogs on an assigned shift to the

designated exercise areas. Every volunteer walks for a 2 hour shift

giving each dog individual attention. Walkers walk all types of dogs in all weather conditions. Walkers must be prepared to get dirty. Shelter dogs are very excited to be walked and will jump on volunteers with their dirty paws, lick their faces, and pull them on a leash.


TIME COMMITMENT:


- Dates and times are prescheduled.


Qualifications:

- Volunteers must have experience handling large, 40-lb. or

larger, dogs. Shelter dogs are strong and unruly, and only handlers able to manage these dogs will pass their evaluation.

- Volunteers must be willing to handle all breeds of dogs at the

shelter.

- Volunteers must commit to the schedule they sign up for and

notify team leads when they are absent.

-Volunteers MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO WALK DOGS ON TRAILS.


Directions:

Volunteers may only walk dogs 6 months or older and have a kennel card. -Do not walk pets that are marked "do not walk" or "not available for adoption."

-Dog Walkers walk the dogs outside in a clockwise pattern.

-Pick up all feces you see

-Use only one toy per pet-do not reuse toys for additional pets.

-Keep firm hold of pet and do not allow pet near other dogs from different kennels.

-Watch for signs of heat stress, breathing issues, aggression, illness or injury and report to staff.

-Maintain control of leash at all times, do not let adopters walk dogs.

-Close gates behind you

-Mark kennel cards which pets have been walked

-Mark pets who seemed to be pottytrained
