Adult ESL Teacher
Summary: Volunteers in our English as a Second Language (ESL) classrooms assist adult learners in acquiring the English language and life-skills necessary to overcome the obstacles in their everyday lives.

•Volunteers commit to teaching one daytime or evening class per week, for the entire term.

Location: Classes currently take place virtually due to COVID

Responsibilities: •Use the CLUES curriculum and other resources provided to prepare engaging lesson plans for each class.
•Teach or co-teach at least one class day or evening per week for the duration of the term.
•Keep in constant communication with the program coordinator.
•Communicate any concerns related to learners’ progress or classroom behavior in a timely manner.
•Maintain accurate attendance records and log a lesson report on the CLUES Volunteer Website for each class.
Qualifications: •Attend the CLUES New Volunteer Orientation Training
•Observe a minimum of one Adult ESL Class prior to teaching
•Optional: Attend the Minnesota Literacy Council’s Pre-Service Tutor Training
•Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills in English.
•Ability to teach the English language and basic life-skills to adult learners.
•Previous teaching and/or tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
•Be responsible, punctual, encouraging, flexible and friendly when working with your students and CLUES staff.
•Be open and respectful to diverse life experiences, values and backgrounds.
